Louisiana

Today we kind of took it easy, because Cassie was very sick last night and didn't sleep much. We went and took a tour of the base April and Dan are stationed at right now, and Keith took a trip down memory lane from his stay here 10 years ago. After Cassie napped for a while, she felt a little better, so we decided to take a trip to New Orleans. This is a city I totally underestimated! I did not realize it was so huge or I would have allowed more time for the trip. Here are some things I saw that were unique to New Orleans.

We went to go see some of the boats docked on the Mississippi, and my favorite was the Creole Queen.

We toured the Riverwalk for a little bit. Derek really liked that train tracks ran right through the middle of downtown. It took 20 minutes for this train to clear out.

Here is the family checking out the ferry on the Mississippi.

Then we walked a few blocked to the French quarter. It reminded me alot of Europe. It's still kind of a mess from Mardi Gras though. We found Bourbon street and I wanted to go down it, but not with the kids (creepy). So I just took a picture of the street.

They had these little trollies all over the place painted in differen ways. This one was Derek's favorite because an alligator was driving.

Next is the part Keith was most excited for and I was dreading- The Lake Ponchatrain Causeway. It is the longest bridge over water in the world- 23+ miles! I don't like bridges, and it scared the life out of me. When we got to mile marker 15, I couldn't see land in any direction- SCARY! When we reached mile 18, I realized I hadn't taken any pictures, so here are a couple when you could faintly start seeing coast again.

After that, we went home so wecould get ready for our 10 hour trip tomorrow. My poor kids are so tired of the car... :)
