The Sand Dunes

On Thursday when we were heading back to Texas, we decided to go to the Great Sand Dunes. I had been looking forward to going, and for some reason we went on the hottest day of the year and the kids were having a wonderful time just trying to stay hydrated. We played in the creek and hiked up 3 dunes before Nico and Derek looked like they were going to pass out. Then Cassie ate sand and she was not happy the entire way because she was so thirsty. It was a very tiring hike.

One of the neat things here was their Junior Ranger program. There were activities and projects for the boys to do so they could earn Junior Ranger Badges. They especially liked that part.

The main part that was neat to me is the shear size of the dunes. They were massive. Once you got into the dunes a bit, you felt so small because in a matter of seconds you would be in the middle of sand with no navigating points to get you out. Luckily, we didn't adventure too far. JD and I would like to go back when its not so hot and see how far we could go.
