Cossatot River State Park

Today we went to Cossatot River State Park. This state park is about 20 minutes from the Oklahoma border. It was lovely when we left the house, but it was quite ugly when we got there. Cossatot River is apparently world known for kayaking. The rapids are supposed to be really good. The scenery was AMAZING! The river is kind of nestled away in a thick forest and coasted by huge boulders. The only problem is that the rocks were very slippery because of the rain. Derek played slip and slide more than once. :) The scary part was that the rocks were about 4 feet above the water, the rapids were very fast and scary looking.

Luckily we found a little place to stick our feet in that wouldn't sweep us into the current. Derek sat on a big rock and threw sticks and stuff to watch it get swept away by the rapids. It was pretty fun.

It was also a neat experience because there was a family there going down the rapids. Derek is ready to get in a kayak and take a go for himself now. I don't know these people, but I thought I'd give you an idea on how the rapids looked with someone in them.

It was a fun trip, but we had to leave early because of the increase in lighting and rain. (We really didn't feel like getting stuck in a river bed during a rain storm). There's another badge for our walking sticks though!
