To start the year off with a bang, we decided to go on a search in the wilderness. Near our house, we have some ancient indian mines. One of the mines is very large. We've never been there because we have never been able to find them. (they are on the top of a mountain and there is no trail) One of the mines was alledged to be the hideoutof Jesse James when he robbed a local stagecoach. I was determined to find it, so we set out on our search up the side of the mountain. First, we had lunch and played at the park that is at the base of the mountain.
So we began. This picture makes it look like a trail, but its just a lucky spot we found in between two boulders.
Eureka! We found it. We decided to have hot chocolate at the mouth of the cave.
It was alot bigger than I imagined it would be. We forgot flashlights, but we did hang out inside for a bit. Exhausting hike, but worth it. Fun to think a famous robber hid in that spot (which is a good hiding spot by the way).

what my wife left off is that this is a native american Novaculite mine. Now for the history lesson,
Novaculite was and still is used as an oilstone for sharping and polishing knife blades. The finest grades of these stones come from a 50 mile radis around Hot Springs National Park. Just thought I would add a little to the post.
